Born among the wine vats...

I was born among the vats. My father had a vineyard in Pesqueiras (Chantada), the land where I was born and grew up. The plot was small, so my father would go and buy grapes in Zamora, coming back with a trailer full, and the whole winemaking process would follow before selling it on in Madrid. Coming home from school with my brothers, we’d climb into the vats to wash them, then help with every task the cellar demanded.

On our own land we also did the everyday work of the vineyard, and drank its wine ourselves. Even during distilling season, someone had to stand by the still and lend a hand. Between harvests, I kept studying: I trained as a sound technician and ended up working in audiovisual production; today I freelance under Pinancho Audiovisuais. I have directed works such as “Asolagados” and O Moredo “A resistencia do Entroido Ribeirao”, both of which wine runs through.

With this small project I fulfil a dream: to be a winegrower, just as my father was. He would be proud of me today, and so would my mother. I still think of you both, even though we can no longer work side by side… (I’ll raise a glass to the two of you. Thank you for everything.)
